Hi! Let me introduce myself! My name is Kim. I am a certified Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach (Pn1). And I am honored that you are considering working with me to help you achieve the healthy lifestyle you want. Together, we are going to get you leaner, stronger, healthier and happier!
I didn't always work in this industry. In fact, I never imagined I would. After starting my career as a teacher, I figured I'd just continue teaching or working in education until I retired. But something happened along the way. I found myself, my passion, and I am so excited to share it with you.
When I was 24, on a beautiful spring day in early May, my mother died suddenly. She had a major cardiac event while driving her car, and died in the resulting accident. She was never a healthy person, always overweight, trying (unsuccessfully) to lose weight by bouncing around from one fad diet to another. Eventually her struggle caught up with her, and her body gave out.
Over the next four years, I managed to gain about 50 pounds. Sure, there were excuses. Stress of losing my mom. Stress from dating. Stress from the first year of marriage. From the first year of grad school. Stress after losing my dad, too. Slowly but surely, I saw my body begin to resemble my mother's and I knew I was in trouble.
Terrified I would be doomed to her fate, I knew I had to do something, and that something was lose weight. Keto diets, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast and cardio machines, oh my! I tried them all. And then some. A few were successful (for a while), and most were not.
In 2007, I hired a personal trainer, and started lifting weights two times a week. Sometimes I'd go in on my own and do a cardio workout at lunch. Then I'd stop for a piece of pizza on my way back to the office because I was starving and hadn't thought ahead about food. I loved the routine of going to the gym, but wasn't seeing the results.
And then it got worse. I kept going to the gym two or three times a week, I did strength training workouts with a string of personal trainers over the years, did some additional cardio irregularly, and unfortunately that's when I really started to pack on the weight. I couldn't figure out why... Wasn't I doing what you were supposed to do? Why was I working so hard and still getting bigger? Back up to my original weight, I was ready to throw in the towel.
That's when the tides turned for me. I started working with a series of trainers who had the skills and the knowledge to give me exactly what I was missing and desperately needed. Excellent programming. A sustainable nutrition program. Permission to rest. Confidence through positive reinforcement.
Boom! Over the next year, I lost about 40 pounds of fat, built lean muscle, and gained more confidence than I ever imagined.
In fact, I was so proud of my accomplishments that I decided to throw on a sparkly bikini and compete in a natural bodybuilding show in the spring of 2013. I thought it would be a one-time gig, but nope! I got the bug, and have now competed in over 15 shows. I am now proud to say that I am a retired WNBF Fitbody Pro. (See the embarrassing pictures of my journey in the photo gallery below).
I love the competition lifestyle, but to me, my pursuit of health and fitness is more than aesthetic. It's allowed me to maximize my opportunity for a long and happy life; to build the physical and mental strength to tackle all of life's challenges, no matter how big or small they are; and I hope, to be able to extend the same opportunities to you.
So join me! Whether your goal is to complete an obstacle course, compete in a bodybuilding event, look great for your wedding, or put your carry-on luggage in the overhead bin on your next business trip, I can help you. I've been there. I've faced all the struggles. Together, we can do this!
